A Miracle Happened Here

I was so blessed today. My dear friend invited me to be with her at the birth of her third child. It was an amazing home water birth.

I'd just gotten out of the shower and was hanging laundry out on the line at 9:00 am. My daughter runs up to tell me that my friend had called and thought she was in labor. Of course, I jumped in the van right away. I was the first person to come. She was on her bed, pen and paper in hand counting contractions. I could tell that she was in labor for sure! They were already difficult.

Thankfully, I had a job to do, setting up the birthing tub. Friends and family were showing up right and left and all pitched in to boil water, bring drinks, whatever was needed. She had her mom, two of her sisters, her mother in law, a midwife friend, her two daughters and her husband there with her. Her husband was in the pool too. I was taking the pictures and got such beautiful ones with him holding her hand and her little girl wiping her forehead with cool cloths.

It didn't take long. She was in harder labor pretty quickly. At one point she told her mom to zip it. We all knew what that meant! Transition! She was a little uncomfortable and, although I am not a really emotional person, I was in tears. She was able to feel the baby crowning and coming out. Dad and big sister pulled the baby out of the water. The baby was born at 10:42, a healthy 9 lb. 4 oz. girl.

I just don't have words for how wonderful that birth was. Life is a miracle.
