When does a name just become a generic label?
Since Jennifer was the number one name for a decade and a half, it seems that anyone my age is a Jennifer. My mom says that they knew no Jennifers at the time and it was such a beautiful name (I remind her that it has fur in it...) She says that it was either that or Amy, the number two name for the year I was born - not a lot of originality. I was determined not to do that to my children! I am shocked and appalled to see my eldest daughter's name on the top 100 for our state.
Curious as to where your children's names fit in? Here are the latest stats on the top ten names. Cruise around the site for top names by year or state. Have fun!

I know what you mean. When I named my eldest, now 21, Kaitlyn you would VERY rarely hear it. My youngest, now four months, is named Aiden. When we decided on the name we did not know it was a popular one. Then a couple months after we made our decision the top name list for the previous year came out and he was in the top 10. As we hadn't had him yet I told hubby we should change it but he was set on Aiden.
Jennifer,
That was fun...thanks! I see that Joshua and David are staples on all of the lists I looked at...and I was surprised that Elijah was more popular than Josiah...
My name though is suffering in popularity! Very sad!
C~
We were thinking about that not too long ago. All of my children... according to the web-site we found... are the only ones with their names in the US. So we must have done a good job. Oringinality in names is very hard to come by without making the names up, hehe.
Thanks Jennifer ;-) Natalie is #15 for 2007 in WA, but Caeden did way better than I thought because at the time there were 3-4 Caeden's in the birth announcements the week he was born... phew ;-) Thanks for the fun!
Cool website. Nathan was in the top 50 when he was born and has been in the top 100 over the past 20 years. Alex's name was in the top 100 when she was born but has decreased in popularity, which I like. Of course, I used her proper name. A lot of the other versions were more popular.
Ha! Amy, as you said, was #2 the year you were born.
I was born in 1981, and for some reason, my parents HAD to name me Amy. It was that or Sherry.
I have always asked them why they weren't more original!
